  • Energy Retail

The energy retail business procures electricity generated at power plants through bilateral agreements, such as PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements), or via the wholesale market, and sells it directly to end customers.

Hanwha Energy actively operates its power retail business in deregulated electricity markets including US(Texas), Spain, and Australia, where consumers can choose their electricity providers. Leveraging our experience in developing and operating solar and cogeneration power plants, we design supply models tailored to local regulations and demand, thereby contributing to the energy transition and the expansion of distributed generation.

  • Energy Storage Systems

Hanwha Energy provides integrated solutions—from system design and analysys to energy production and management—leveraging its experise in ESS(Energy Storage System), EMS(Energy Management System), and microgride management systems.

ESS has various applications depending on its purpose, such as renewable energy grid stabilization, frequency regulation, and peak load shifting/reduction.

The global ESS market—including US, Europe, and Australia—continues to grow, driven by the expansion of renewable energy and policies for carbon emission reduction. Hanwha Energy is leading sustainable innovation in the energy sector by providing optimized system design and operational expertise tailored to diverse power demands.

  • LNG Power Business

Hanwha Group has advanced the entire LNG value chain—from investments in U.S. LNG liquefaction terminals and gas turbine retrofit technology to LNG carrier manufacturing. Building on this foundation, Hanwha Energy focuses on downstream LNG power generation and continues to expand its LNG business both domestically and internationally.

    Tongyeong EcoPower

LNG Combined Cycle Power Plant in Tongyeong

Hanwha Energy, in partnership with HDC Hyundai Development Company, constructed a 1,012 MW LNG combined cycle power plant in the Anjeong Industrial Complex, Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do, which commenced commercial operation in October 2024. Utilizing a high-efficiency combined cycle process, the plant supplies electricity to approximately 1 million households. It features Korea’s first in-house 200,000㎘ LNG storage tank, ensuring stable fuel storage and supply. Furthermore, long-term LNG supply contracts with global energy companies were secured, establishing a competitive fuel procurement foundation. Through this project, Hanwha Energy contributes to national power supply stability and the transition to cleaner energy.

Gas to Power Business in Vietnam

Hanwha Energy, in a consortium with KOGAS, KOSPO, and Vietnam’s T&T Group, is developing the gas-to-power Project in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. The project includes a 1,500 MW LNG combined cycle power plant and a 200,000㎘ LNG terminal. This integrated energy project spans the entire value chain—from LNG procurement to terminal and power plant construction and operation. After securing government approval in 2021, the consortium plans to complete the local feasibility study and permitting process by 2025, targeting commercial operation in 2029. Leveraging this major project, Hanwha Energy plans to continue expanding its operations across the global LNG value chain.

  • Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Generation

Hydrogen fuel cell power generation is a high-efficiency, zero-emission method that produces electricity through the
electrochemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen, emitting no greenhouse gases or air pollutants such as NOx and SOx.

In June 2020, Hanwha Energy commissioned a 50 MW by-product hydrogen fuel cell power plant at the Daesan Industrial Complex and began commercial operation. This facility is the world’s first large-scale fuel cell plant to utilize by-product hydrogen from petrochemical processes, which would otherwise be flared or wasted, as fuel. It generates 400,000 MWh of electricity annually, enough to supply approximately 170,000 households.

  • Biomass

We upcycle underutilized forestry resources (such as thinning wood and unused wood) into energy resources, aiming to create synergies with domestic industries like forestry to drive carbon emissions reduction.

At Hanwha Energy’s Gunsan Plant, we are implementing co-firing by partially blending carbon-neutral biomass (wood pellets) with the existing coal-based fuel for combined heat and power generation, and are also pursuing a full transition to biomass fuel.
